•  Beyond the Bedroom - is a romantic genre that combines romance and erotica.  More explicit sex or discussions of sex is to be expected.
• Chick Lit - features hip, stylish female protagonists, usually in their twenties and thirties, in urban settings, and follows their love lives and struggles in business.  This genre features an airy, irreverent tone and frank sexual themes.
• Contemporary - modern, real time adventures in romance marketed for all audiences. 
• Historical - romantic writings based on 'everything' that is known about the human past.
• Inspirational - this type of story, with a romantic basis, can be both fiction and non-fiction but will ultimately uplift a reader.  
• Multicultural - romantic literature advocating the ideology that society should consist of, or at least allow and include, cultural groups, with equal status.  
• Paranormal - is a romantic genre of speculative fiction, blending together themes from traditional fantasy, science fiction, or horror.  Typically, this genre refers to romantic relationships between humans and vampires, humans and werewolves, or any distinction restricted only by your imagination.  
• Regency - these are romance novels set during the period of the English Regency or early 19th century.  In particular, most Regencies feature a great deal of intelligent, fast-paced dialog between the protagonists and very little explicit sex or discussion of sex.  All that said a little sex, even inferred, is not all bad.
• Romantic Suspense - this genre draws on mysteries, crime fiction and thrillers.
• Western - these are romance novels set during the period of the old west. 

• the story must focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people.

• the story must have an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.
